MMFF 2009 - The Philippines as an Alternate Universe

We live in an alternate universe where Bong Revilla is a Best Actor, and where a mighty hero like Flavio - ang Panday fights the dark forces with a potbelly! In this alternate universe, Willie Revillame saves the boring lives of demented seniors... and Willie Revillame deserves a National Artist award. Leading ladies become femme fatale in the size of a barrel-shaped Sharon Cuneta, (Mano Po 6) who doesn't have the discipline to look healthy for her patronizing public! So when we watch the movie, we shall forget that she has a lingering cancer, her weight and size can overwhelm any form of malignancy so she stays errr... "healthy" throughout her misery!

In this alternate universe, a film reviewer like Philbert Dy (clickthecity) considers the first 10-minute of all-time turkey "Wapakman"promising and enjoyable, while he considers Michael Jacksons' documentary "This Is It" and " and "District 9" somewhere in the realm of abysmal.

We accept these confounding truths as our reality. After all, we once had a president who can’t even understand a question like “What are your vices?” – and we have an incumbent president who shall honorably demote the image of the Presidency by running for congress. Greed after all is encompassing. Isn’t this a fucked up world?

The superb Angelica Panganiban (I Love You Goodbye) punches her heavyweight best actress rival Sharon Cuneta... and loses.
